Symposium
Literature festivals are flourishing. They ease the pressure on books, create temporary communities of literature enthusiasts, and—with their diverse formats, texts, authors, and activities—reach even those who read little or not at all.
But how do we strike a balance between spectacle and meaningful discussion? How can urban spaces and local communities be brought into the process? What kinds of encounters emerge during the festival days? And how can we curate distinctive events?
In this exchange format, international literary festival organisers present successful approaches and engage in a conversation about shared experiences, common challenges, and differences in our festival work.
Input presentations will be held in English. Discussion at the working tables may take place in either German or English. We are happy to support each other with any language barriers.
Accessibility Information
The workshop rooms on the first floor are accessible via stairs or elevator. An accessible restroom is located on the same floor. All rooms are equipped with bean bags and designated spaces for wheelchair users.
The atmosphere is relaxed: you are welcome to enter or leave the rooms at any time. Quiet participation is perfectly fine – there is no pressure to ask questions or join the discussion. We support each other with language barriers and will help each other find the right words.
We use name tags, and a quiet room is available throughout the entire symposium. Assistance dogs are welcome. FFP2 masks are provided at the registration desk. Drinks and snacks will be available.
